COVER to COVER
"Never Let Me Goooooo..."
All 4 of the covers portray different vibes and feelings you receive while reading the book. How one interprets the meaning of the book portrays which cover best represents what was read. The one with the boat can be seen as this is a mystery that takes you aboard a boat that the wind and water take you without you knowing. The one with the shadow shows that there is an overlay with how life is. Reality and expectations vs dreaming and what is to come about with your life. As it says in the text, "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are" (Ishiguro). This is shown through all of the covers that are presented to us.The cover on the left you see the woods and the woods can be seen as the mystery that holds nothing but mysteries. There is an overlay of the lungs. Your lungs are inside of your body and allow you to breathe and get through life. Given within the book they are donors and are donating vital organs. That is somewhat obvious given the title being, "Never Let Me Go." You don't want to be in the world only to let go" of your organs.
The cover to the right makes you think that this is a girl that doesn't want to let go of her own life. She is alone in the grass. Everything is just one color with different shades. Green shows life, renewal, nature, energy, growth, and freshness. When you are outside in the woods or even just walking you are walking through faith and walking to make changes and gain new strengths and energy.
The similarities that can be seen in both of these is that it is very focused on the title, "Never Let Me Go" and there are many ways that this can be interpreted. It can be seen as the outside world shouldn't let you go because what you learn is taken and used in the real world. The other similarity I saw was that these are both outdoors and in the woods which show nature and as one gets older they go through trials and tribulation as you are taking a path to change and grow as a person. When I first see the picture on the left I think, oh gosh I don't want to read this because it isn't going to be interesting but when I see the other cover I want to read it. Given that the girl looks odd and she has a story to tell. If I had to chose which one I would want to read based off of the cover, I would choose the right but if given a closer look I would read the right. I am indecisive and that plays a vital role in what draws my eyes to certain things. If I had to formulate an opinion based on the cover I would think that this is about a girl that we follow her dreams as she takes paths that she normally wouldn't take if she wasn't put in that life. As far as the one on the left I would think it would have to do with lungs and the grief/sadness. The lungs are responsible for taking clean air into the body and releasing carbon dioxide. This correlates to taking in the new and letting out the old as this is the cycle of life and how we stand to live on this earth. Resulting to, "Never Let Me Go." We must let go of the negativity and the "harmful" things in life to bring in new and adventurous opportunities. Since this is a dreary background this matches perfectly. The type of people that would make this type of book are people that are creatively inclined in making connections to real-world situations. I say this because it can be seen that when you don't bluntly say what is just on the outside you dig below the surface allows you to see what is underneath and what helps to piece all the moving items together. Knowing what is beneath the surface helps formulate and interpret the story through different lenses and perspectives. The type of person to read this are people that find books that are told first-person and include narration to be interesting. This is becuase they can build a connection with the author and the narrator telling the story.
This is a great analysis! I think it was really clever of you to connect each one to the title and how the audience would connect the image to the title, because that is how we access book covers. I also think it was really fascinating how you viewed each cover as being themed around mystery, which is definitely true to the text, but I viewed the cover with the physical girl whose face you could see's cover as less mysterious than the other three. Great job!
